Making a tonic with vinegar questions
Post Body

Hello everyone! I have always believed that nature heals and that plants can be amazing medicine, though I never really put it into practice. Lately, I have been wanting to be more health focused both mentally and physically. I have been doing a lot of research on different plants and their uses. This sub is a wealth of information on it's own! I have taken fire cider in the past and absolutely love it, so that will be one tonic that I make.

I am interested in using vinegar to make a tonic as I have been sober from alcohol for two years and wish to keep alcohol out of the home. From what I gathered, many herbs, species, berries, and plants in general can be successfully extracted into a vinegar tonic. I suppose fire cider on it's own is proof of that.

I would like to make a tonic with holy basil as a base. This seems to be a truly amazing plant. What are some other good herbs to add that are not already included in fire cider? I was thinking maybe some nettle and elderberry. There are just so many herbs that I am a bit lost!

When using dry herbs, how much should I add? A lot of recipes online call for fresh herbs. Dry herbs are more easily accessible to me. I plan on using quart jars and I had an article that using a couple tablespoons per pint was a good amount so maybe doing 4-6 tablespoons of herb? Does anyone have any actual dry weight measurements that would be a good guideline?

Any input is greatly appreciated!
