So I've been using medicinal herbs for many years but on the recommendation of practitioners and others and am now starting to educate myself more. I joined this sub and saw on your Wiki that Chevalliers Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine is top recommended book. So I bought the 4th ed. However when I read the chapter on valerian there are no cautions about the toxicity of valerian! I know that on significant doses valerian can definitely cause liver toxicity. I can feel the toxicity when I take valerian. Valerian is a good herb. But needs to be used wisely. This book does not recognize risks and so appears to be recklessly irresponsible. Makes me doubt other info. Also a lot of the info is based on western sci research which... is what got us into the mess of relying on pharma in the first place so I am confused. (E.g. comparing herbs to benzos without recognizing benzo risks.) Please help me understand. And recommend a better book. Tl:dr anyone want to buy a used 4th edition of Chevallier?
