Hi everyone,
I've been trying to get my hair an even color with henna and indigo for months now.
My hair was bleached/balayaged, so the bottom is much lighter than the top and it seems very dye resistant. The top is a nice auburn color but the bottom is still very orange.
I tried a one step process with 40% indigo and 60% henna on the bleached parts, which looked good but washed out really fast.
Then I tried a 2 step process with 100% henna and afterwards did pure indigo, leaving the indigo on for 25 minutes. Again, it looked good at first but washed out quickly.
Then just now I switched brands and tried a 50/50 mix with henna and indigo (using ancient sunrise Rajasthani twilight and Zekhara indigo). I did a test strand and it barely took on my ends at all, so I followed it with a pure indigo wash for 30 minutes. The ends look better, but still not quite matching the top.
I'm considering leaving pure indigo on after the henna for 45 minutes. Would that be crazy?
Apparently that should make my hair dark brown, but 30 minutes just made it a reddish brown color. I'm thinking 45 might get it to auburn but I don't know.
I have been mixing the henna with water and a bit of lemon juice, then letting it dye release for around 8 hours (according to the chart on the ancient sunrise website). Then mixing the indigo right before application, with 1 tsp of salt per 100grams.
Any suggestions? Do you think I should try a 45 mintue application? I'm desperate to get my hair to match! Thank you!
