Confusion over 'Total Shares'

The 'share' stats are really confusing me. On another account I have some posts with, says, 30 shares. On mobile it suggests they are all 'link shares', but when I hover over 'total shares' on desktop only a few of them show up as 'link shares'. But then what are the other shares?
Moreover, these numbers surely can't be accurate. There are askreddit threads with more shares than likes, for example, according to the share button. That just doesn't make any sense to me.
