Chats will not delete

I have tried multiple ways to clean up my inbox. I have old chats that I just want to get rid of.
I have tried on the app, going to each individual chat, clicking on the settings and clicking “leave chat” I have also gone on a browser on my phone and done the same. I even went on a desktop and tried to remove these chats. But once I refresh the page or do anything and come back to my chat, suddenly they’ve all returned!
Am I just screwed and doomed to have an inbox a mile long or am I missing something?
