I never have read The Hellbound Heart its on the bucket list, so I’m comparing to the OG flick.
The story just seemed really convoluted.. all the configurations have names and specific purposes now? (Dunno if thats in the book). The writing was just weird. I honestly didnt know if Matt was her brother, or just a good friend, til the lead cenobite said “Your brother’s death was exsquisite” like an hour into the movie. She runs around saying “trying to find Matt’, but never “trying to find my brother”. IDK just didnt seem like normal speak to me.
They had some good ideas with the Cenobites looks.. too bad the makeup effects were terrible. The gorier and more “flayed” the Ceno was, the more plasticy and fake they looked. What cgi there was, was pretty mediocre as well.
One of the absolute best things about the OG Hellraiser movie was for me, was Doug Bradley’s delivery of absolutely awesome and terrifying dialog. Whereas the dialog in this, that was actually original..just felt forced and excessive.
The ending was just silly. I dont know what else to say about it.
I had high hopes for this, but was just let down.
