Heat strip?

Hello. About to get a heat pump and am excited to cut my oil bill. My ? Is should i also get a heat strip installed for an extra cost of about 1k. I live in NY and winters can go either way. If i do not get it i have oil as a backup. Im wondering if it is worth spending the money to get it and possibly increase my electric bill. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
