I'm in Maryland. Decent heat pumps should be able to handle our lowest temps without backup residence kicking on. I'm also in a townhome and brought my blower door number down by sealing the attic so our heating load is not huge.
HVAC guy seemed to really be pushing for 15 SEER AC and 80% furnace switch out. I asked about heat pump and he seemed against it from the start. Said I was required to have backup resistance with 2.5 ton great pump. I said "what if I seal the home and add attic insulation to confirm I only need 2 tons?" His response was that then my ducts would be incorrectly sized and that's a lot more money to replace.
I feel like I don't necessary need backup resistance and the panel upgrade I also think my larger ducts would be fine downsizing the tonnage.
Is he right on any accounts?
