What should I do with my thermostat (to my oil furnace)?

Post Body

Hi, I just had a heat pump installed today. The workers were here late and were kind of in a rush to leave, so I didn’t get a chance to ask as many questions as I have. My main question is this. The heat pump I got is not big enough to heat my whole house; they recommended an upstairs unit also, but I could only afford to do the one right now. My question is what should the thermostat that triggers the oil furnace be set to, relative to the heat pump? I am going to need the furnace to come on enough to keep the upstairs warm (forced hot air), but obviously I am hoping to heat the downstairs as much as possible with the heat pump. What should I do? Also, do I need to keep the outside unit shoveled out? We are expecting snow tonight. Thanks!
