(Wild player) So secret mage has returned as a strong deck again, I’ve noticed it appear on ladder more and more.
This archetype has always had insane synergy and with the addition of cards like contract conjurer that can be played by turn 3 it feels as strong as ever.
I’ve never liked facing secret mage very much but a saving grace about it was cards like eater of secrets & kazan mystic at least gave you a chance to damage their strategy and actually get to play something without the risk of counterspell or explosive runes. (Or to delete ice block if you have lethal).
Objection! has pretty much thrown that out of the window unless you can get a tight-lipped witness down early and somehow get it to stick.
Anyone else feel a bit like this regarding the class or come up with any decent counters?
EDIT: Some good points made about the card working as intended with the counterspell/flare argument. This post was less to argue about whether or not it works like it should do and more just stating that the power lvl of secret mage no real counters makes its unenjoyable to play against.
As people have said you can just play your least useful card in hand to try and draw out the secret but that means wasting a card & mana, OR playing a card that doesn’t trigger the secret in which case you have to waste even more mana, which is hardly a real counter imo. This tactic wouldn’t be too bad if mage wasn’t dropping 6/6 & 5/5 minions on turn 3.
Just my thoughts.
