I quit the game 5 years ago and want to get back into it. What should I know?

I stopped playing around the old gods expansion. I have been watching HS content lately and want to get back into playing, but it seems like I have to bust out my wallet before I can play anything fun.
I mostly like to play combo/control/gimmick decks and I’ve heard that the game is so fast right now that control isn’t a played archetype atm and that kinda scares me haha. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Edit: I play mostly Rogue/Priest/Wizard/Warlock decks, and have never played demon hunter.
