By now, we have all come to realise that the forced synergy picks in arena are generally pretty terrible. Too bad that terrible is not an established mechanic as such.

My biggest gripe, and I see it echoed here a great deal, is that beyond those 2 first picks, there is no guaranteed back up for your choices. I don't believe you can make an effective arena deck based around 2 cards. While 2 card combos, can on occasion, work incredibly well, the most common picks I've been offered are just plain awful.

I did 4 runs yesterday and got offered the 4 same "synergy" cards on each occasion. [[Devilsaur Egg]], [[Gadgetzan Auctioneer]], [[Book Wyrm]], [[Netherspite Historian]]. All 4 classes were different, yet those 4 cards popped up within the first 2 picks.

I never pick auctioneer because the spell pool seems to be sub par in quality and quantity, so it would often end up an incredibly overpriced 4/4. Egg can be hard to trigger without specific minions/spells, and I'm not keen on committing to a maybe decent, probably never gonna happen result. Most people would want to pick the historian and dragon combo.

The problem is, even with the introduction of new dragons in KotFT, other dragons just don't show up all that much. Even the dragon loving Andiun doesn't get his secret agents coming through. With pally, I got [Rallying Blade]] and [[Frostwind Howler]]. Seemed like an ok choice. Ended up with a weapon. Good. Ended up with an over costed 2/2 that didn't draw a single card because there was no back up with other DS minions. Bad.

Maybe my choices were bad, maybe my luck was bad, given the massive increase in the size of the overall card pool. Maybe, by popular opinion, synergy is a bad idea.

I believe it has potential to be decent with a good tweak, that maybe offers a little more support along the way.

I'm interested to hear what other junk arena has thrown at you, while screaming SYNERGY!!!, and how you have managed to make it work, if it even did work.
