George Doyle and Eddie Malone have been stuck in Un'goro crater for years
Post Body

Recently, Bliz has been hyping Un'goro in the form of Journal entries and an episode with actors. The story follows George H. Doyle and Eddie Malone in their journey through Un'goro crater. The format of this story and voting polls might lead one to believe that the story is happening in real time. Due to clues in the trailer and journal entries however, I have come to the conclusion that this is in fact not true and the adventurers have been stranded in the crater for some time.

In the trailer, E. Malone(who is revealed to be the cameraman in journal week 1) says that their journey through Un'goro trailer will take 6 weeks(1:21 mark in trailer). The video would have to have been broadcast AFTER the journey was over without anyone to deliver the clips so it is confirmed to be not taking place in real time. Shortly after, a storm puts them off course and a distinct test pattern shows up that distinctly resembles the 1939 indian head test pattern. This blinks between the 1951 onward test color line test pattern. Because these images are used as a passage of time, we can be aware of the period of time that this episode is taking place: 1940s to 1950s. This is further reinforced by the color line test pattern at the end that lacks the first color test(3:08 mark) which suggests that by the end of the episode enough time has passed for the first color test to die out as did in the 1950s(which took years). The overall television theme of the episode gives these symbols enough significance to the events taking place.

There is a noticeable contrast between the week 1 and 2 Journal entries. In week 1 E. Malone takes very careful notes to record the Journey; in the second there is a noticeable confusion of dates. At some point Malone lost count of the time they spent in Un'goro which means his entries are not accurate. At 2:09 George Doyle even explains how lost they felt and most of their equipment had shorted out. This is mostly due to the two explorers lack of ability to use a compass as revealed in journal entry 2. This combined with the previous evidence makes being the explorers being lost for years very probable.

I kind of doubt that that the people that Bliz hired to make this Un' goro stuff thought of any of this. I just wanted to take something interesting out of it.
