I don't know if it's just a Texas thing but my agency is having a hell of a time hiring good candidates. I trained up a girl and she is leaving at the end of the month, I think to move closer to family, and that will put us at needing 3 positions to fill. If one of our inspectors retires like she plans to, we'll be down by four.
My friend is a supervisor at a city department, recently promoted, and they can't find anybody to fill her previous position. When I was interviewed for my current job, a few months before covid hit, my manager let me know that out of something like 150 applicants, only 10 were selected for interviews. Now we're lucky if she gets 50 applicants and most are not even close to being qualified to sit for the licensing exam. I'm in charge of training our newbies and I feel like at this rate, I either won't have anyone to train -or- I'll be in a loop of training them up and then loosing them after a year.
Is it just a Texas thing? How are things going in your area?
