Sorry, Just need to Rant about Insurance Companies

A have a member of the family that is a licensed Social Worker and as such must also get their healthcare through ACA. As a Social Worker, her practice just got started this year and has filed to take insurance. I will try and make this short as I can:

  • registered through national registration system (CAQH).
  • select insurance companies. Fill out EFT (electronic funds transfer account data)
  • Wait weeks. Get denials for Bad EFT. Makes changes, wait weeks. Get denials. Make Changes. 4 months later, get acceptance.
  • Receive letter from insurance company Welcome to plan.
  • Directed to register on their site. DO that.
  • Hire medical biller. Start taking Patients.
  • Bill Insurance company who denies claims. Says family member did not register on the right site which their welcome packet did not provide links to.
  • register at correct site. Told 30 day before they can complete registration.
  • 45 days go by, no registration. Call insurance company
  • Do have family member on file. Need to register on the site where there register was already done.
  • register Again!
  • 30 days go by. no word.
  • call insurance company. Paperwork has invalid data. Never notified us about data. Change data. resubmit.
  • Receive notice of acceptance but the last 3 months of service provided to patient will be Out of Network. Clients in uproar.

Thats just the Doctor side.

Now to the Patient Side:

  • So family member has a Bronze plan. high cost, no subsidy, high deductible.
  • Problem arises. Blood work. Doctor calls back to see specialist. * * Call specialist that has been family member doctor for over 30 years to make appointment.
  • "Sorry we do accept your insurance company but only Gold and Platinum plans. No Bronze plans.
  • call other doctors on list. no one accepts bronze plans.
  • cries. gives up and waits to die.

I am so pissed I cannot stand it. The ACA has to go and so do ALL the insurance companies! Its time for a radical change.
