I can understand the task of a DAC - a digital to analog converter. What I have a bit trouble understanding is what makes one DAC better than any other. If you have a integrated DAC in a motherboard lets say - something that is mass produced on several motherboards. Can you hear the difference between a DAC from an Asus motherboard vs MSI motherboard? Does a DAC from a 2010 motherboard sound worse than one from 2020?
I can understand that a DAC changes the sound, my question is if the changes actually makes it sound better, or if it colors the sound in any way that might be good or bad - similar to an EQ.
What makes - lets say a $1000 DAC better than a $100 DAC?
