Just got back from a mates and had a listen to a number of different headphones on his Topping E70 and L70 amp and DAC.
I listened to the Sundaras, Fidelios, HD660s, Focal Clears and Audeze LCD2's.
The Fidelios Bass was much better then the Sundaras but everything else just sounded extremely muddy.
The Sundaras i really struggled with everything seemed off the to the point where i just took them off and thought to myself why are so many people pushing these cans online. I can only think that people come onto here because they cant listen to them in person and because so many people say how good they are they just buy them and they are better then anything else they have have ever had.
The HD660s, Focal Clears and the Audeze blew them away and not buy a little bit.
The Focal clears were by far the best set of cans clear precise bass was ok but didnt blow me away. Maybe i needed some time to sit down and play with the EQ to get more out of all of them but they did sound amazing.
The Audeze were great but i dont know if i would touch them at their price point might as well just fund some second hand clears.
But the big surprise was the HD660s i really liked them they reminded me of a budget set of clears. They are 1/3 of the price but i didnt find the sound quality to be that far off the clears for the price.
But the difference between the Sundaras and the HD660s was night and day.
Im used to loud speakers so just getting into headphones but have owned high end loudspeakers for 20 years. And if it wasnt for my partner sleeping next to me at night i probably wouldnt have even gone down this path.
But im finding it really hard to find a set of cans that i would really like and almost ordered some Sundaras because of all the positive reviews on here. And like i said if you dont know better you dont know better and everyones ears are different. I like alot of people do alot of research on reddit but i was shocked at how average they sounded.
If you caneven if you have to drive a couple of hours to do it try and find somewhere to listen to any of these before you lay down alot of cash.Ill most likely head down to Sydney soon to test out some more cans in he next couple of weeks. Keen to the Beyer 1990s out and see if anything else stands out. But dont for a second think the Sundaras are all their cracked up to be.
