Will a PhD make me less employable in industry?
Post Body

Sharing here because I'm now realizing it may be field-specific.

I have my Masters in social psychology and I'm considering starting a PhD related to human-AI interaction (relationship formation between humans and artificial partners).

I don't have any interest in staying in academia. This is just an exciting project and I've always wanted to pursue a PhD for the learning and experience of it. It's also already in the same city I live in and I plan to settle down here, so location is not an issue (Amsterdam, Netherlands).

I currently work in the tech industry as a recruiter (which I hate) and I've been trying to get into human-computer interaction roles for 2 years with no luck, so this PhD could set me on that path.

But I'm concerned because I've heard that a lot of companies don't want to hire PhDs for various reasons.

Will getting this PhD actually make it more difficult for me to find some kind of HCI job in industry?
