In book 1, Hagrid didn’t actually say “flew”. He said “Floo”

That famous scene in the first book where Harry asks Hagrid how he got to the island and Hagrid told him that he flew? Well, that’s just what Harry thought he had said. In reality he said he floo’d, but since Harry has no idea that such a word exists and because of Hagrid’s thick accent, he just left it at flew.
