So j.k. said that umbridge was In League with the death eaters. What if umbridge intentionally went after Trelawney because she was the one who made the prophecy and ousting her would put her in a position where she and her mind could be accessed by the death eaters. Meaning dumbledore’s reasoning for making sure she stayed at Hogwarts after being fired was deeper than just his love for his colleagues, there was also the safety of the prophecy at stake.
