For me I’d have Snape survive and a moment of reveal where Snape duels Voldemort doing enough to show Voldemort his true power before managing to escape with his life denying Voldemort the elder wand.
I’ve always liked to think Snape knew enough to put up a small fight but never do I believe he could ever have won.

Nah, it's only illegal if used on humans. All the curses are that way
