Hi there, everybody!
I'm a seasoned musician, but admittedly know virtually nothing about the harmonica. Please excuse my naive explanation and understanding of the instrument. :)
I was recently trying to add a harmonica part over one of my songs, and realized something a bit interesting, and perhaps a bit peculiar or atypical.
I have a song with a simple part that goes between D and G, over and over. The song is in the key of D, but this particular part only features two chords: D and G.
At first, I was using a D harmonica. When blowing into the left/lower side of the instrument, I could create a D chord. I realized, though, that there isn't a great way to create a G chord. When drawing into the left/lower side of the instrument, I created an A chord.
Because of this, I decided to look into using a G harmonica. When blowing on the left/lower side, I got a G chord, and when drawing on the left/lower side, I got a D chord. Even though the song is in the key of D, it seemed like a good opportunity to specifically utilize a G harmonica.
I'm wondering: Does this make sense? Is this atypical? Does something like this ever happen? I'd also be open to better or more-optimized solutions.
Thank you so much for any thoughts!
