Hey, quick question. For a Harem to work, how many is too many members?

Hi, I’m currently working on a project that has a harem element to it. It’s in a post apocalyptic setting where men are in a small number.

I understand that harems can have too many people and depends on the character.

This character is in his 30’s, jaded and closed off. Not angst ridden but has no desire to be hurt or used anymore by anyone. He’s pretty much an isolationist/survivalist type.

The apocalypse happens and he’s become a prime good and is hunted by Government shadow agencies, bounty hunters, new amazons, outlaws, and other groups. (Men are outnumbered 500,000-1)

I had an idea for some characters he would be joined by (romantic and friendship) but bottom line is this is a harem story. I can’t see a story where men are in short supply that doesn’t end in a harem. Question is a number of partners.

Is 13 too many? I brain stormed that number based on characters who would join him for example: a former police officer, ‘retired’ pornstars, office workers, and some other types.

He meets people by chance, celebrity crushes he had once upon a time, saves some people, captured by others etc.

Before anyone asks, this isn’t a guy who says I’m not worthy, or I’m don’t deserve this: this guy is not angst ridden. Just an isolationist. He’s not a guy to turn down a good thing (looking to you Michael Ironside) he’s just a guy that sees a snake in the grass and questions what people want from him.
