Battery tech... The big future?

So a few days ago I posted:

And the overwhelming winner was battery technology.

In other subreddits I have also seen the focus on battery technology.

From EV vehicles to changing home energy infrastructure.

Now a lot of people in this sub are way more qualified than I could ever hope to be or have some experience and or deep self study in this area.

What are the big hurdles in regards to innovating and taking the leaps forward in battery technology?
