Cookie Bite and Bad Ear
Post Body

Hi, I am new here.

My name is Amy. 47 years old. I was born late of 10 months in womb. Came out without breathing after getting meconium fluid in lungs. Had pneumonia and was giving Kanomycin which I was told is ototoxic.

I wasn’t discovered with a hearing loss until I was around 3 or 4 years old. I rocked as a child and never been diagnosed having autism. I taught myself lip reading at 2 years old. I didnt talk in sentences until I was 5 years old. I was fitted with a BTE hearing aid in left ear that was better than my right that was a bad ear. It was dumb to ignore the bad ear because I noticed when comparing my audiograms that it gradually through many years declined. I now have severe in low and profound in highs for my right ear. My left has a cookie-bite where my lows and highs are normal to perfect but the mid-range is moderate to almost severe back to moderate. I had an extremely hard time with a hearing aid as it amplified too much that I don’t need plus I was very sensitive to loud sounds due to autism. I hated seeing audiologists bc it was torture to me. After a long day of school, would come home and take it off and my tinnitus was very loud. I quit wearing it when I reached Junior high into high school.

I went back to trying a hearing aid shell for left ear while I was entering college and stopped not for long bc of loud sounds.

I tried again when I got married and was shocked to hear sounds in bad ear with a hearing aid which I didn’t wear for long bc of loud sounds.

When I had kids, I did not want to bother with hearing aids bc their voices were high pitch. Missed out several years like 17 years.

Did a spit DNA test to discovered that I have Asperger’s the high spectrum of autism. No wondered that I was sensitive to loud sounds.

After seeing and hearing how much technology has changed with hearing aids, I decided to try again with 2 hearing aids. The sounds were so much better than the traditional but I have a hard time with my bad ear as every sound seems overstimulating and not sure if I hear and recognize any high frequencies as my brain must be confused. My test says off the chart on 1k but the test with the hearing aid shows 75. I have had ear pain for 2-3 months and asked to have the high frequencies lowered in my bad ear. Is this normal to have pain bc of so many years of not being treated? I wanted to be able to hear better even if speech understanding is crappy for my right. I am using a dome of 4 vents for my left and power dome for right.

I am looking to move north to see a better doctor. I have been told that my hearing does fluctuate over the years. Too many issues.

Thanks.
