A few things to help I am a 24 year old female with cookie bite hearing loss And an auditory processing disorder
A few days ago I saw my ENT for clearance for my hearing aids my first pair. The ENT informed me. Most likely with the type of hearing loss I have it is genetic and progressive. He couldn't tell a rate of hearing loss because my audiologist only sent enough information for the approval. But stated with my level of hearing loss at my age and type it's likely I will be deaf before retirement. That alone has me scared because on some subconscious level I always knew I would have hearing loss looking at family history but didn't know how bad. Now I am scared and frustrated and my immediate family doesn't understand because all of them can still hear enough (dad has very mild hearing loss not enough for aids ) the last few days I have been trying to figure out how to explain my feelings to my family but can't I feel alone I already know basic asl so it's not like I would lose all communication but I have so many what ifs what if I wake up tomorrow deaf what if I wake up in 40 years deaf what if the hearing loss is so slow. I don't realize I'm loosing more. What if I have more loss then the exam shows but can't tell them because of my auditory processing disorder I should have aids by the end of the week in a way it's a good thing all my family that has them says I'll love being able to hear well again but it's also a sad step I started noticing hearing loss at 11 it's now bad enough for hearing aids.
