Questions on wood splices/repairs for old wooden planes
Post Body

I have a few old wooden planes that are in need of various repairs. A few jacks and smoothers that need inserts to close the mouth. Also a rebate plane that needs squaring and a new layer of wood On the sole to close the mouth. I donโ€™t have any beech and Iโ€™m not really sure where to get it either (without paying a disgusting amount for what I need). I have off cuts of Meranti and white oak. Will either of these be suitable or should I wait and source something more appropriate? If so, any particular type? I saw some boxwood off cuts cheap on eBay, would that be acceptable? Thanks
