My guns are stored in a safe in a closet. It is just small fire safe from Home Depot. It seems like my guns slowly rust just sitting in the safe. I cleaned the rust and rubbed on some gun oil an it still rusted some more. I was wondering if anyone has used silicone spray lubricant to coat and protect the exposed metal. Did it work?
Get a golden rod or similar gun safe dehumidifier. They plug in to an outlet, and keep the safe warmer than ambient to prevent moisture formation. Otherwise there are big packages of desiccant that you can buy. Finally keep them wiped down with something called Rusteprufe (rusty proof). We’ve been selling it at the dealer I work for, for the past 72yrs no lie. It flat out works. Buy the applicator and the 2oz refill bottle and that should last you about 10yrs. Just takes a touch of it on the applicator every year.
