Leather holsters any good?

Hey guys and gals! So I was talking to my brother about getting a holster for my new side arm...my CZ P10 C. I mentioned that I was looking at getting an open carry lock leather holster (Urban Carry). He told me that leather holsters are dangerous....is that true?
also what holsters (companies) would you guys suggest? Especially providers that make holsters for freaks left handed people.
