So… got a new hamster, immediately put her into a 7,200 square cm enclosure with 30 cm deep bedding throughout (with platforms on top and all the accessories). She seemed friendly the first day but now she is definitely a ghost hamster with an extensive burrow system. Should I have put her in a smaller enclosure until she was tame? Is it ethical to tame ghost hamsters because they are wild and not technically domesticated? Should I just try to mimic her natural environment like a zookeeper and let her live out her life without having a strong human bond? What are your thoughts?
