To hamster ball or not to hamster ball?

My hamster seems frustrated being in her cage lately (Its over 650 sq on and im thinking of upgrading when i can) In the meantime ive been taking her out to play as much as i can but she isnt always awake before i go to bed and i can’t let her free run when she is up because my apartment is not hamster proofed. I didn’t get her a ball before because of the debate surrounding their safety and usefulness but now im wondering if that would help her?
