Unpopular Opinion: The saddest moment in hamilton is NOT “Its Quiet Uptown”.
Post Body

Let me preface this by saying that everything in this post is my personal opinion and you are more than welcome to disagree.

Now a lot of people talk about how the song IQU, “hit them in the feels” or whatever, but IMO although it's a tragic song, it's not THE most tragic one.

I mean think about it. Philip is really not that great. He got himself into a duel with someone just because they insulted his dad, who is a big political figure. But guess what you twat? Political figures in a democracy get shit on all the time. That’s kinda the whole point of a democracy. Now I am not saying Eacker is a good guy or anything. He is a POS for shooting before actually getting to 10. But he does have every right to call Hamilton a scoundrel after all the rumours about speculation and the Reynolds Pamphlet. But sure it's also sorta understandable since philip is only 19 (Even though he bragged about his mind being older. Guess what you arrogant pup, it's clearly not.)

But you know what IS the saddest moment in Hamilton?

Well, here we have a character who is just outright better than Philip, a man who had morals and stuck to them firmly. Everyone give it up for the man who actually knows how to fucking win a duel, JOHN LAURENS!

This dude is just straight up bad-ass. He is pretty much the only one in the musical who gave two shits about an entire race of people being enslaved. This is a man who was more than willing to die for the causes that he believed in. Even in Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down), pretty much the only things he said were “We will never be free until we end slavery” and “Black and white soldiers wondering alike if this really means freedom”.

That is why his death in Laurens Interlude (Tomorrow there’ll be more of us) is the most tragic moment in the entire musical. At the start of the musical, they were singing about how "I may not live to see our glory, but I will gladly join the fight”. But Laurens is the person for whom that line actually hits the hardest.

Not to mention the line “The surviving member of this regiment have been returned to their masters.” Makes it feel like everything he did turned out to be for nothing. This is the most bone-chilling line in the entire musical for me.

And Alexander’s follow-up line of “I have so much work to do” is also so sad. This guy is trying to cope with the death of his best friend by burying himself in his work.

I rest my case. Now let me go and grab some tissues.
