Hey folks.
I'll cut to the chase: as a first time renter in the city, I'm having difficulties navigating my rights and responsibilities as a tenant.
During today's storm, I had water protrusion from the slab of the foundation into my basement apartment.
I notified the landlord who advised me to plug in a dehumidifier.
Having prior experience with these sort of leaks, I am well aware that this was going to take more than a dehumidifier to cleanup. I advised the landlord that this would instead take time and towels to cleanup, perhaps a wet vac, followed by the use of a dehumidifier to fully dry out the tiles. (And obviously this isn't a "fix").
She responded, again, to simply plug in a dehumidifier.
I have not responded to her since because I am unsure and don't want to create a conflict.
I am no stranger to creating invoices in my career, and I really am pissed and want to simply send an invoice for my time and materials to cleanup this mess.
I know this isn't the right approach - but what is the right thing to do next?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
tl;dr - How do I deal with a landlord who effectively told me to go pound sand with a leaky apartment?
