Hey folks, hoping local people can shed some insight on an issue I'm looking at.
My girlfriend was just approved for an apartment rental. It's nothing spectacular, but very ideal location and very ideal price. It's part of a multi unit townhouse style home in an historic neighbourhood. I have known people who have lived here over the years, but don't know them enough to reach out and ask them - but I may, shortly.
The question is, she was informed that rent is to be paid by cash each month. The immediate questions were taken care of: securely placing the cash is on order, and receipts are offered.
However, in searching this method, I came across this guide which states, on page 3, "You should NOT pay for your rent or security deposit in cash".
This is a local report, which is nice, but its elaboration is short and I'm wondering if anyone can shed light on potential conflicts that may arise, and if this is a red flag.
