The first significant snowfall is typically the most dangerous day of the year to be on the roads. We have a whole year's worth of new and new-to-NS drivers who are getting their very first taste of low-traction driving today. It's also the day that traffic will be least equipped to deal with snow, due to the stragglers who haven't swapped their tires yet.
It's already getting ugly out there. Loads of new truck and SUV drivers learning that 4WD and all-seasons aren't enough for a slick hill.
If you don't have to be on the roads, stay home! Minimize your exposure. It doesn't really matter how well equipped you are if someone else loses control and hits you. At best, you get to deal with insurance agencies. At worst, paramedics.
Be safe, drive defensively, and get ready for an early rush hour. Good luck out there.
