I've been playing for about a month now. I just wanna say kudos to the devs - I used to play Hearthstone a few years ago and I was just thinking recently of the comparisons.
After playing a few rounds of the basic Monster deck, I noticed that all the vampire cards looked cool. Do you know how freeing it is to construct a deck around how a card looks? I feel like with Hearthstone, I was always locked into the meta (that's not to say there is no meta in Gwent: looking at you cache). I would look up decks and I would just copy them, maybe a slight change here and there but sticking to someone else's plan for me.
I built a deck around how cool a card looked. I'm sure there are plenty of vampire decks out there, but I've hit rank 15 with it. Tweaked it here and there based on MY playstyle. No one else's. And you know what? The deck is thematic. The cards literally drain blood and get stronger each time that happens.
Maybe this isn't a revelation for most of you seasoned players, but I just thought the freedom in how I want to play the game is the most enticing part of the game. I'm having a lot of fun.
