Ok a friend of mine doing machining for Blue Origin and SpaceX has a bunch of Inconel off cuts and scrap. We got to talking and wondered if you can use Inconel for gun parts, particularly bolts/ bolt carriers/ barrel extensions/ barrel nuts/ gas blocks. How does Inconel compare to the traditional carpenter steel used for AR bolts? From the small amount of research I’ve done not a lot of people have tried do to the cost, but since cost isn’t a factor here, are there any strength, wear, or weight advantages over any of the traditionally steel parts?
Also, just so it’s clear, I am a professional gunsmith and former machinist with all the knowledge and machinery to make the parts to spec.
Any insight would be great! Thanks in advance!
