Why would my stock buffer spring be so much shorter than the aftermarket on I bought? They should both be "carbine length" springs.
The full story is I purchased and Anderson ar-15 and it would not sycle for shit(wasn't fully returning into battery).after shooting around 300 rounds through it (cleaning it and oiling it in between) hoping it just needed "broken in" the first pin broke. So I ended up just buying a whole trybe defence BCG (it was on sale). It ran noticeably better after that but still the same problem. I decided to buy a new buffer spring because that was the only thing that made sense to me. ( I also bought an adjustable buffer weight at the same time because it was definitely overgased the ejection pattern was like 1-2 o'clock). With the new parts it runs perfectly.
Cut price stuff has to cut costs somewhere and that's usually QC.
Looks like the original spring was either out of spec in terms of length or wasn't heat treated properly so the 300 round cycle compressed it to being too short for it to cycle properly.
