Hello r/guns! I am not new to weapons at all, I currently own a S&W MP15 (5.56/.223), and a Springfield XD9 Full Size model. Recently I have been wanting to purchase a shotgun, although only have fired one once, for home defense but mainly recreational. I was thinking about the Mossberg 500 or 590, but I never really talked to anyone about shotguns, so I'm not sure.

As for the pistol, I prefer Striker fired due to familiarity. Also, the XD is an amazing pistol for me, the grip is perfect for my hands and I haven't had any issues with it. I also like the grip on the Glock 19/17. I wanted to give the HK VP9 a try, or maybe a 1911. Any suggestions and insight would be helpful, thank you guys!

Edit: Price range for Shotgun is $200-$600. As for the pistol I do not want to spend over $800.
