Type 56 SKS Vietnam War Bring Back - Should I buy?

local seller has a Chinese Type 56 SKS. He claims that he originally bought it from a Vietnam vet in the 80's and that it was brought back from the war. Though he has no paperwork to back this up.
he says the serial number dates back to 1966 production and "marked with triangle 26 and matching parts", which I have no idea what that means.
seller is asking $400.
