Hey, I bought a new bedroom amp and while I love the amp, (Vox MV50 clean), I realize that my 2 distortion pedals are no longer doing it for me. I have a 30 year old Boss DS-1 and a 25 year old Danelectro Fab Tone. Both are far too sizzle-ey for my liking. With the Vox amp lacking a mid control, I can’t dial in an inspiring tone with either. My Tube Screamer, however, sounds great.
I typically play my single coil Strat and Tele so trying to get the mids dialled in is somewhat challenging once drive turns to distortion.
I live in a small town so don’t have the luxury of trying many pedals so was hoping for some recommendations for a distortion with a mid control knob on it. I think a Marshall drive tone is what I’m leaning towards. So far, I’m eyeing up the MXR Super Badass pedal and the Wampler Sovereign.
What else should I be looking at?
