Advice on chain - Algal Bloom, Octaver, Comp & Dirt?
Post Body

Hey folks,

I am currently thinking on how to reorder my chain. I wanted to get some advice from people on here who are more knowledgeable on this than I am.

I play an AM Pro II Telecaster and mainly try to fiddle around with all things math rock, shoegaze, etc. So far, my chain was the following:

Guitar > EQD Warden Compressor > Algal Bloom Fuzz > Boss / JHS Angry Driver > EHX Russian Muff > Julianna > Monument Tremolo > Boss DD-200 Delay > Boss RV-6 Reverb > EHX 720 > Strymon Iridium

Now I am currently reorganizing the dirt section if my board, and as is custom, we never think so much about how to organise our boards as when we don't have access to them. So seeing as I currently cannot access it, I was sitting here pondering.

I had recently been not very satisfied with the Algal Bloom anymore as it reacted somewhat harshly and seemed extremely mid-focused (hardly any low frequencies). It was overall fairly fizzy. Would you put an Algal Bloom first in chain? I know some fuzzes are supposed to go first because of impedance reasons, but I thought the Algal Bloom was not so. Should I put it first in chain, i.e. before compressor?

I have also bought two new pedals, neither of which I yet managed to put on the board (due to being away from home). That's a JHS Double Barrel and an MXR m228 bass octave deluxe (i saw Yvette Young use it on her guitar and am xurious how it works with guitar). I kind of wanted to put the m228 in front of the algal bloom and kick the muff off the board so that the dirt section goes:

Guitar > m228 Bass Octave > Algal Bloom > Warden Compressor > Double Barrel > Angry Driver > Julianna (rest as is)

Now I am not sure if Algal Bloom or m228 should go first. Any of you who know more of the technical details of the Bloom who can weigh in on whether input impedance matters a lot for this pedal or whether an octaver in front would be okay? I'd be most grateful!

Cheers!
