I apologize if I am not explaining what I mean properly. For example, the intro riff to Kiss of Death by Dokken has you hitting a 5th fret A string powerchord continuously and before each powerchord you go back and alternate pick (muted) the low E string. The problem is that I keep getting stuck on the E string and when I want to hit the A string powerchord I keep accidentally hitting the E string with it. Which you're not supposed to of course. What would be the best way to play riffs like that? Should I instead try muting the E string with my index finger when hitting the powerchord and removing it ever so slightly when hitting the E string?
