The lack of knowledge that vets have when it comes to external parasites baffles me.
Post Body

Why does it seem like hardly any vets know about dog lice??

When I was grooming in Utah I probably had around 10 cases of dogs with dog lice per year.

One of the dogs was so infested that it looked like the top of its nose had turned grey but in reality it was hundred on lice crammed together on top of the nose. I showed the owner picked a few off to show her and she was shocked. She had just been at the vet the day before for itching and he said nothing about it, just said she had allergies and to tell me to use hypo shampoo. So she called the vet back to tell him and he told her “we don’t get dog lice in Utah”. So I scraped off a bunch with a flea comb and put it in zip lock to have her take it to him, and he finally prescribed a flea and tick medication.

Just now I was scrolling through Facebook and came upon a post of vet group, someone posted a picture of what clearly are lice, and two vets commented saying it was bed bugs and the admin closed the comments.

What the heck? And then they get so offended when you try and explain what they are, because how could a groomer know more than they do? Ugh. It’s really infuriating.
