Burgers flaming up and caused a big fire

Brand new grill, and my burgers are flaring up like crazy. They are 85/15 so perfect for burgers. The other night I came back out to the entire grill engulfed in flames with 8 burgers on there and the lid was closed. There’s already a ton of build up in the grill, I do have it by the hose and everyone ate a waterlogged burger :/ any way I can prevent such flair ups?
