Preface: This episode Meredith learns that Amelia and Owen are involved with each other and butts in a bit to make sure “both” are being “careful”.

In the end of the episode, Amelia snaps on Meredith and tells her that she doesn’t know what it’s like to lose the love of your life and cry over them.

Not even 2 episodes later Derek dies and Meredith experiences exactly what Amelia describes.

I get what Amelia meant, but honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a little guilt for Amelia after Derek died from her saying this.

For Meredith to understand how Amelia felt, she would have to lose the love of her life, which coincidentally is Amelia’s brother.
