Perm application continuing outside the US

Hi guys, have anyone here had started the Perm application in the US but had to leave due to status and finished the process outside the US and were able to succesful comeback? If yes can you please share your story

My company have started my process 2022 june, my STEM OPT expires this july 9, we are in the recruitment process and we know that we wont have enough time to get the PERM by then so I have to leave the US, but the laywer says that the process can continue even being outside the US.

Have anyone here did this??? Thanks for all the responses
