is it worth upgrading the graphics card in my rig?

I just got a new monitor that has a resolution capable of 1440p; Was looking at getting and playing (at good framerate, 1440res, and high quality)
My current specs are: i5 3570k HD7870 16GB Ram 600W PSU SSD
I was looking at upgrading my HD7870 to an R9 290x; would it be worth it? bang for the buck? is this even my bottleneck? should I hold out a few generation (I can wait another year)
Interested in playing at 1440, high quality; GTA5 MK X Witcher FarCry 4 Batman Arkham Knight
