How much of actual physical production is involved in your work?

I just went on some indeed interview for a sign company and they asked me if I had experience drilling plywood. Apparently 50% of the job is design and the other half is physically working with the print.

Why do jobs want you to be in every single trade nowadays? Is this normal?
