Is anyone else bitter about the Tokyo expressway experience or is it just me?

I feel like the decision to make every surface 5 second penalty lava pushed everyone to just use the tomahawk. Yeah it's a fast credit grab, but it's really unfun content. I really dislike the tomahawk as a car in GT anyways, it's beyond the realm of concept, the car is science fiction at best. I'm just bitter about the whole situation. I wish the race felt approachable in a regular car. I know it's doable, but the penalty hell is incredibly discouraging.
